"15 August 1947" means Indipendence day, is an annual celebration of the day India gained freedom from british rules. It was a historic day for our nation, for after years of struggling against the British rule India was officially free.

What is the History behind Independence day?

India had been ruled by the British for several years. For about 100 years India was ruled by the East India Company. In 1757, after the British victory in the Battle of Plassey, the rule of East India Company started in India.In 1957 India had it's first rebellion against the foreign rule in which almost the entire country united against the British. Unfortunately, India was defeated but after that Indian rule passed to the British crown who ruled til India was independent. It was only after a long campaign for independence and Britain being weakened after two world wars was India finally granted it's freedom.

Unfortunately as India got independence, it was divided into two countries, India and Pakistan. Pakistan celebrates it’s Independence Day on 14th August rather than 15th August though.

Every year, the Prime Minister of India hoists the national flag at Delhi’s Red Fort and makes an address to the nation, which is followed by a military parade. The President of India also delivers the ‘address to the nation’ speech. In honour of the occasion, twenty-one gun shots are fired.

On the eve of 15th August 1947, India tricolor (saffron, green and white) flag was first hoisted by Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, at the Red Fort of Delhi.

This day is observed as a national holiday across India, with offices, banks and post offices remaining closed. Independence Day is observed with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades and cultural events in all Indian states and Union Territories.

Independence Day on August 15th is celebrated every year across the nation. The moment will not only be celebrated in governmental offices, but also in schools and colleges as well.

A week before the day of celebration, children enjoy the time of preparation they spend in schools. Skipping classes during practice may be a part of their happiness, but they are over excited in preparing themselves for the performances too. They spend more than half-a-day in school practicing for march-past, speech, dance, sports, cultural activities and more.
